Hello!
We’re Michael and Juli Bull, a couple of adventurous souls who think nothing of hopping in the truck at 10 PM to drive fourteen hours just to catch a sunrise in Grand Teton National Park. We plan our vacations around solar eclipses and migratory events (poor Puffins of Haystack Rock), and we’re not afraid to wake up at 5 AM to brave the frozen tundra at -15 degrees, where even our iPhone gives up within a minute. This isn’t our full-time profession - at least, not yet!
Our journey began like many others - with a digital camera in hand, capturing moments and downloading them to our computer, dreaming of one day printing them to display at home. About a decade ago, we started printing select photos, and a few years later, we began framing larger ones.
Family and friends would visit and compliment our work, often saying, “These look professional!” or “You should sell these.” After hearing this for a couple of years, we decided to give it a shot. Life, with its usual unpredictability, caused some delays (yes, that’s sarcasm).
But we’re here now!
We’ve sifted through our digital archives from the past fifteen years (or more) and selected the photos we love and cherish. These are the ones we’re excited to share with you through Firehole Photography.
As for the photographers behind this adventure: Michael is the technical guru, a gear enthusiast who won’t settle for anything less than the perfect shot. He once thought it was a great idea to take a DSLR and a 100-400 rental lens on a 7.5-mile hike through bear-infested Montana backcountry, all while carrying a 45-pound pack. Juli, on the other hand, is the reason the industry moved to digital rather than film. Her photo folders occupy an entire data farm. I mean, how many pictures of a balloon do you need?
We’re also sarcastic, fun-loving, and maybe a little crazy.
Gear
We’re part of the Canon ecosystem, still using DSLRs. Our main cameras include the Canon EOS D77, D60, SL1, SX60, and SX70. Occasionally, we also use an iPhone.
While we mostly shoot handheld, we do use a Mefoto tripod and an Amazon Basics tripod when needed.
